Late Summer Bounty
With the abundance of veggies from your garden and farmer's markets this time of year, we're guessing that your kitchen time is filled preparing things like fresh summer veggies and homemade pesto. If you're not in the mood for baking after all of that, we can help. Order up some of our brownies and confections, and we'll have them at your door in a few days. Your house will stay cooler too!

With gratitude,
Sweet Spotlight

At Allison’s Gourmet, we bring you a fresh perspective on artisanal baking. Allison approaches each new decadent dessert with the curiosity of a child and the artistry of a master.
What do you use in your pesto instead of parmesan cheese?
I've found that the best ingredients to add a rich flavor and creamy texture to my pesto are pine nuts and a touch of miso. Walnuts may be used as a less expensive option, however, they impart a more bitter flavor and aren't quite as creamy as pine nuts.
What is veganic gardening? And what's growing in your garden this summer?
You might be surprised by how many animal products are used even in growing vegetables and fruits. In addition to manure, farmers regularly use blood- and bone-meal as fertilizer. Veganic gardening is organic gardening sans animal products. In place of manure and blood- and bone-meal we use compost, worm castings, and various sea vegetables. In our biggest veganic garden to date this year, we're growing winter squash, cucumbers, beans, eggplant, hot chili peppers, tomatoes, kale, chard, shallots, strawberries, culinary herbs, and edible flowers. Read more about Veganic Gardening.
