What happens when a woman with a life-long passion for sweets develops a reverence for our planet and all of its inhabitants? In 1989, Allison Rivers Samson learned about the myriad benefits of veganism, including optimized health, compassion for animals, and care of the planet. Naturally, her love of sweets drove her to begin experimenting with vegan* dessert recipes.
As any baker or food scientist will tell you, replacing the butter, eggs, and corn syrup in traditional baked goods and confections is no easy task. Each of these ingredients plays an important role in creating the texture, crumb, moisture, and flavor of the traditional product. Not one to balk at a challenge, Allison knew that she could find a way to make all the sweet things she loved without using animal products, highly refined sweeteners, and unpronounceable ingredients.
In 1997, after refining her skills through chef training and countless experiments, and perfecting her recipes to surpass any other desserts on the market, Allison was ready to please the palates of discerning dessert lovers everywhere with her moist, chewy vegan cookies. She opened our predecessor, AllisonsCookies.com. Through the ensuing years, she continued to add more top-notch exclusive creations like vegan brownies, vegan caramels, vegan toffee, artisan vegan chocolates and more. Naturally, Allison’s Cookies grew into Allison’s Gourmet, the premiere and most prestigious vegan sweets and gift company on the web.

Allison completed her chef training at The School of Natural Cookery in Boulder, Colorado. She lives with her family in Northern California where she continues to create magic in the kitchen and is always working on new delightful treats. Since 2008 she has also been the author of the well-loved vegan comfort food column, “Veganize It!” in VegNews Magazine, which won “Favorite Column” for 2011 and 2012 in VegNews' popular Veggie Awards reader’s poll.*Vegan foods are made without animal ingredients (no eggs, dairy, butter or honey).
