People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is the largest animal rights organization in the world. PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, and in the entertainment industry. They also work on a variety of other issues, including cruelty to domesticated animals.PETA is one of the most outspoken voices against animal suffering.
Since 1985, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine has beenleading the effort to end the use animals in medical education and research. Led by PCRM president Neal Barnard, M.D., they work to promote nonanimal teaching methods for medical students and are reforming medical education to stop the use of dogs, pigs, kittens, ferrets and other animals in trauma training and pediatrics residency programs. PCRM is also reforming medical research which harms and kills millions of animals each year. Their nutrition efforts include an extensive global outreach program that is getting animals off plates and saving human and animal lives.
